First off, I highly recommend AGAINST paying anyone by the hour that you have not met personally, spoke on the phone or even know of their "skill set"...as every human is different.

As for myself, I am 51 years old and have been programming since days of paper tape telling machines how to duplicate and process code. The "web" is actually no different, as all you are doing is displaying data and images, and processing user input for requests.

With that said, We prefer to work on a "firm bid" basis, and do not request ALL UP FRONT like most will, and rather bill in stages of development. 1/3 Initial start, (once defined as much as can be) 2/3rds upon BETA testing where you are seeing results that YOU like, and the final payment when the site actually is ready to GO LIVE.

Tons of time, because all work done is on our own servers ( unlike others ) in which we are able to develop right on the server and make changes 7 times or so faster, as I am sure you have uploaded and downloaded files before...and see the wasted time it takes...to make one or two changes. This is why I shy away from hourly rates to programmers...as Why should you pay, for their mistakes or misconceptions?
